Unschooling: Stand for Something

When I was young I was going to live in a log home and climb mountains but I never did. So, what happened?  I lacked the tools to follow through with my desires.  Emotions ruled my life, therefore, finding my own way was pushed aside.  You must stand for something or you'll fall for anything.  I've had an interesting ride and I am fortunate to find my way, eventually!  While, I have divorced twice and have 5 boys I thrived on figuring out reasons humans to the things they do.  My choices were not always wise, but I always felt deep down there was more.  My life became a puzzle and I was humble enough to stop, get help and listen.  I look back and think, WOWEE, my family was extremely patient with me while I swam some pretty deep channels!  Unschooling my children came to me while I was raising my kids.  This is when I became secure, confident, and peaceful within myself for who I was and what I was teaching my children.  Homeschooling is not for everyone.  I don't wish everyone could homeschool or unschool.  It is for me and a choice I give my kids.  Unschooling is allowing children to learn through natural life experiences including child play, household experiences, responsibilities, and social interactions, rather than a more traditional school curriculum.  When they were young it was easy to form them into what I wanted them to do, while we read many books, worked on phonics, said, "please" and "thank you", learned to share etc.......then one fine day...... THAT IS NOT WHAT THEY WANT TO DO.....   ;)
